Overview
Penguin designs, builds and deploys customized HPC and AI infrastructure for our customers. The HPC and AI Engineering team are responsible for designing those solutions using a combination of internal and 3rd party software and hardware. The scope of the team extends from working with the sales team to design a solution which meets the customer specific needs, through working with internal and external engineering teams to deliver the required building blocks and on the back end documenting the complete solution and providing manufacturing with detailed build documentation. The team is also chartered to identify those solutions which are repeatable and should be made available as off the shelf solutions.
The Sr. System Architect will focus on the software aspects of these solution working closely with our Solutions Architects and the Sales team.
Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, qualify, and integrate 3rd party software including orchestration, containers, virtualization, and security solutions to our portfolio.
- Ensure interoperability and repeatability via automation and playbooks.
- Work with the sales Solution Architecture team to identify appropriate solutions for customer needs.
- Drive the technical implementation of customer POCs which incorporate new software.
- Assist sales with responses to RFIs and RFPs.
- Join customer calls to identify requirements and design solutions.
- Act as a technical interface to our software partners, working to resolve issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, a related engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of systems engineering experience.
- Solid technical foundation in enterprise orchestration technologies, including significant experience with container and virtual machine orchestration platforms.
- Experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires independent time management, task prioritization, flexibility, and keen experience to identify problems and proactively work towards solutions.
- Track record of operating independently and taking initiative, embracing ambiguity, demonstrating creativity, being detail-oriented, and delivering results in a highly organized manner
- Experience working on large scale platforms with technical teams, especially in machine learning or artificial intelligence
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a broad range of audiences.
The ideal candidate is experienced working with modern application deployment practices including but not limited to HPC Schedulers/Orchestration, Docker/Singularity Containers and Kubernetes. Candidates should have the ability to create engaging design concepts communicating complex ideas in an intuitive way. Experience with deployment and orchestration technologies (e.g., Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Salt, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, OpenShift, or Jenkins). Have a go getter attitude to dive deeper and understand technical requirements with strong analytical and problem solving skills.

This is a remote position in the United States.

Compensation & Benefits
The base pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in the United States is $140,000 - $160,000; the pay ultimately offered may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
