Overview

 

The Services Team is an agile, high-performing team consisting of Scrum Master, engineers,  and technology Subject Matter Experts. In an exceptionally fast-paced environment, we lead programs that address our customer’s crucial initiatives and emerging needs. Ultimately, we are champions for what’s best for customer programs, helping Penguin Computing to achieve business objectives, work strategically together, and enable adaptability in a challenging, rewarding, and ever-changing landscape. We’re always looking for ways to optimize.

The Sr. Storage Engineer is a subject matter expert (SME) on data pipelines and data technologies within the Services organization. As the Storage SME, you lead the discovery, architecture, and implementation efforts surrounding the data storage, protection, security, and accessibility of enterprise environments for Services customers. The Storage SME works closely with other SME peers in the domains of AI Workloads, Orchestration, and Networking to understand customer technology requirements, create solution proposals, and establish a technology strategy for Services customers.

 

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with customer decision makers on core data technology decisions for next-generation scale-out projects.
  • Articulate the data technology, requirements, goals, and milestones.
  • Lead the architectural design, development, and deployment efforts of data pipeline and storage technologies.
  • Coordinate data technology activities and tasks using Agile principles.
  • Provide status updates and reports to the Client Architect and executive leadership on data technology progress and challenges present with Services customers and provide recommendations on how to move forward.
  • Document what you know and teach others. This can vary from building targeted training for Services DevOps teams or to simply working through hard problems with a Services customer on a whiteboard.
  • Coordinate effectively across organizational boundaries and geographies.

 

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of technical storage experience.
  • Advanced storage troubleshooting skills with ability to root cause problems across all facets of storage, including OS, IO, network, etc.
  • Solid technical foundation in enterprise data technologies, including significant experience with block, file, and object storage systems.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Security or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with traditional and modern data technologies, such as Pure, Vast, Pavilion, and Software-Defined Storage.
  • Experience with data management solutions (i.e., data warehouses, data lakes, etc.) and enterprise level data storage design, including data security and access auditing considerations
  • Experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires independent time management, task prioritization, flexibility, and keen experience to identify problems and proactively work towards solutions.
  • Track record of operating independently and taking initiative, embracing ambiguity, demonstrating creativity, being detail-oriented, and delivering results in a highly organized manner
  • Experience working on large scale platforms with technical teams, especially in machine learning or artificial intelligence
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a broad range of audiences.

 

Location

 

This is a hybrid role that requires some on-site responsibilities in the Richmond, VA area.

 

 

Travel

 

Travel up to 30% may be required.

 

 

Compensation & Benefits

The pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in Richmond, VA is $116,000 - $160,000; the pay ultimately offered within the expected range may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
