Overview

Penguin designs, builds and deploys customized HPC and AI infrastructure for our customers. The HPC and AI Engineering team are responsible for designing those solutions using a combination of internal and 3rd party software and hardware. The scope of the team extends from working with the sales team to design a solution which meets the customer specific needs, through working with internal and external engineering teams to deliver the required building blocks and on the back end documenting the complete solution and providing manufacturing with detailed build documentation. The team is also chartered to identify those solutions which are repeatable and should be made available as off the shelf solutions.

The Sr. Director HPC and AI Engineering is responsible for leading this team and managing the partnership with our technical partners.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Defining and running a rigorous engineering process to deliver high quality customized and repeatable solutions. 
  • Managing the technical relationship with our OEM and ODM partners, including driving requirements, qualification, defining and managing SOWs, tracking and resolving any quality issues or product defects.
  • Working with the CTO and product management to select key industry partners and solutions to deliver on our solution roadmap.
  • Working with product management and hardware engineering to ensure the required Server, Storage and Networking components are available for solutions.
  • Selecting and managing partnerships with 3rd party software vendors including Software defined Storage vendors.
  • Optimizing the delivery process to maximize reuse while ensuring Penguin’s leadership in customized solutions is maintained.
  • Managing Penguins internal validation lab for system level validation.
  • Staffing and delivering the technical aspects of customer POCs which require new capabilities.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Strong domain knowledge across hardware and software for HPC, AI and high-performance Storage with a deep understanding of the current market and solutions.
  • 5 + years of Engineering Management experience.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work in an Agile environment reacting to changing customer needs.
  • Experience in developing and optimizing engineering processes.
  • Familiar with Data center infrastructure including power and cooling.
  • Strong communications skills and executive presence.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.

Location

  • Fremont, CA / Hybrid preferred but remote will be considered.

 

Travel

  • Up to 20%

 

Compensation & Benefits

The base pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in the United States is $195,000 - $225,000; the pay ultimately offered may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
